\n‘A. van Wees Distilleerderij de Ooievaar’ dates back to 1782. In 1922, Adriaan van Wees took over the Henri Matveld distillery and wine merchant, established in 1883. He settled in the Driehoekstraat. Until 1970, we supplied our products in casks and wicker bottles to caf\u00e9s and restaurants throughout the Netherlands. In the late 1970s, Cees van Wees opted for the core business: artisanal distilling. He discontinued all other activities. Granddaughter Fenny van Wees has taken over the reins. Great-granddaughter Nikki is now also learning the craft.<\/span><\/p>\n

The reputation of our distillery is based on the past. This origin, our commitment to the products, and extreme interest in our craft keep us far removed from mass production. It is not without reason that our craft of fine distillation has been placed on the National Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage. As guardians of this once-famous Dutch craftsmanship, we have committed ourselves to preserving and promoting the craft.<\/span><\/p>\n

Few people know that the Netherlands has been a leader in the field of spirits. The Dutch were the first to master the art of producing excellent distilled products from agricultural produce.
